I’m a 29 year old girl who was diagnosed with keratoconus on my right eye 10 years ago. Since living with this illness had become impossible, two specialists advised me to have corneal transplant. (I was having difficulty driving, often had headaches, was extremely sensitive to light , had continuous loss of dioptres, images were deformed, etc.)
After waiting years, I finally received the long-awaited call for a transplant.
Then, by chance I met a person who had undergone transplant and told me of his plight with this. This tale frightened me so I refused the transplant and started research on internet for other alternatives.I finally found a website that didn’t just talk about transplant but told about microsurgery as a cure for keratoconus. Right away I got in touch with Dr. Abbondanza and made an appointment.
He told me that corneal transplant was not necessary and proposed microsurgery. I trusted him since he explained patiently without leaving anything unsaid. I scheduled the operation for the following month. Two years have since gone by and all is well.
