Gianfranco Rossato
My name is Gianfranco Rossato, I’m from Padova and am 25 years old. Ever since I was a child I’ve had perfect vision. The day that I went for an ocular exam during a military check-up I realized for the first time that I could not see all the letters on the board clearly. The ophthalmologist suggested I undergo a complete check-up. However, I felt that this problem was so light that there was no rush and waited several months before undergoing another exam this time for a driver’s license. I had no problem passing this examination but was reminded of my problem. I went to the U.L.S.S. in my town where the ophthalmologist diagnosed astigmatism and prescribed a pair of eyeglasses. Although the doctor scolded me, I never became accustomed to wearing them. I then went to a private specialist who told me that I could never solve my problems with astigmatism through use of eyeglasses. He said I would need to use hard contact lenses and gave me the name of a specialist. I purchased these lenses and tried to get used to these two pieces of glass in my eyes but couldn’t. I didn’t feel safe or free to run and jump like I used to. After arguing with the doctor I quit trying and gave up, thinking I would never see perfectly again. My eyesight got worse: I avoided driving at night or in the rain, couldn’t snowboard like before and gave up the thought of buying a motorcycle. One summer before leaving on vacation with a mobile home for Spain I went into my optician’s and tried on all kinds of lenses until I found the best combination. I was satisfied with the results and was able to go on my vacation.
Upon return I was advised, notwithstanding my mistrust of ophthalmologists, to go to another specialist in Padova who was the first to diagnose keratoconus in both eyes: he explained a few things about this illness without offering any alternative cure except cornea transplant which he considered a last resort.
Finally some good fortune came my way!
During Christmas holidays in 2001, my mother was watching a program entitled “Medicina 33″ on the Rai channel and saw DR. ABBONDANZA who was talking about his revolutionary technique for curing keratoconus. She phoned the program immediately and a short time later I was in Milano talking with the doctor who would operate on me a few months later.
DR. ABBONDANZA explained in detail what keratoconus is, telling me that it should not be underestimated since the consequence is blindness. He then told me of techniques used at that time. After that visit I had absolutely no doubt about the problem with my eyes and how to stop the illness. On February 15, 2001 I was operated on by DR. ABBONDANZA in the Casa di Cura “Città di Milano” in Milano.
The operation on my left eye was not at all painful and lasted 15 minutes. At home I avoided exposing my eyes to intense light for less than two weeks. I realized how much better I could see the first time I drove at night…A WHOLE NEW FEELING!
I had other routine check-ups after that and on July5, 2001 I underwent a touch-up operation using the same procedure.
I now go to Milano twice a year for regular check-ups and as soon as DR. ABBONDANZA thinks the moment has arrived, I’ll have my right eye operated on as well. I’ve had no problems or collateral effects after this operation. Today I am able to ride a motorcycle and practice free-falling from 4000 meters with a parachute, thanks to DR. ABBONDANZA and his brilliant technique…so much for those who say that the only solution to this problem is something as traumatic as a transplant.
