LASEK SURGERY FOR MYOPIA, ASTIGMATISM AND HYPEROPIA:

This technique shares similarities to both PRK and LASIK.

It consists in creating a very thin superficial flap consisting only of the epithelium layer, this is obtained by applying a weak alcoholic solution to the cornea that loosens the epithelium layer from the underlying cornea, in this way the superficial epithelial layer can be mobilized very delicately with a surgical instrument.

The next step consists in applying laser treatment on the underlying cornea as in PRK treatment, followed by re- positioning of the epithelial flap in its original position followed by application of a bandage contact lens for a few days.
The advantage of this technique essentially consists in less patient discomfort in the post -treatment period and slightly faster recovery.
